Scottish-grown hops, African cattle ranching, farming and climate change

The programme discusses whether farmers care enough about climate change. There is also a look at beef farming in Africa and beer brewed with Scottish-grown hops.

Research appears to show that climate change is not as high as it might be on the agenda of British farmers. The 2016 Farm Practice Survey found that fewer than ten percent of farmers believed that it was "very important" to consider greenhouse gases when making decisions relating to their farming practices, although a far larger proportion - 39 percent - thought it was "fairly important". Farming Today discuses what is currently being done, and what else UK farmers can do to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

All this week we follow Farming Today producer and Nuffield Scholar Anna Jones on her recent visit to Africa, today she reports on Kenyan beef production.

And could we soon be drinking beer made with hops grown in Scotland? Up to now the climate was just too cold for them to be grown successfully, now researchers believe they have found a commercially viable method to provide the Scottish brewing industry with home grown hops.
