Good Morning!

Whether or not we’re β€˜divided by a common language’, most of us do have three things in common: we want to be happy, we want to be loved and we want our lives to have meaning. So why is something so simple so difficult?

Though I was not raised in a religious home and never read a single page of the Bible until I was an adult, when I finally did read it, I was surprised by 3 things.

One: human foibles never change. We may dress them up and call them by different names but the traps and temptations haven’t changed much. Neither have we.

Two: I had assumed the Bible would gloss over the real difficulties of life. Instead I found stories of people who wrestled with the same questions I did, who made mistakes, who had trouble with their kids - yet who still lived with a deep trust and faith in God.

And three: the biggest surprise was God. If God existed, and for many years I was doubtful, I thought of God either as a Celestial Santa Clause who doles out goodies OR a Celestial Scrooge who wants our lives to be drab and dull.

What I discovered is that God created us to be fully human! But for that to happen we must know why we are here, what drags us down, and what enables us to become the people we are meant to be.

Lord, we need wisdom and fresh hope if we are to live our lives wisely and well. Help us where we are on our journey. Amen
