Making It Big
Huw Stephens follows two bands from the region in the build-up to Radio 1's Big Weekend music festival, as they prepare to take to the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 1 Introducing stage.
Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 1's Big Weekend is the largest free music festival in Europe and this year it's in Norwich. It's also a chance for some lesser known local bands. Huw Stephens from Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 1 Introducing follows two local acts through preparations and performances at the Big Weekend. Will this be their lucky break? Norwich and the surrounding county have a vibrant music scene. Musicians and bands of every genre thrive here, and yet only a very few like Ed Sheeran, who got one of his big breaks on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Norfolk Introducing ever make it professionally. In the build-up to the Big Weekend cameras follow Franko Fraize from Thetford and Kill it Kid from Norwich. Both could be on the verge of big success. What makes the difference between acts who enjoy local popularity and the ones that go beyond? The reality is a world away from the glossy X Factor-style TV image of talent spotting. Hard grind, endless performances in pubs and years of disappointment are often nearer the truth. The Radio 1 Big Weekend is a chance for these musicians to showcase what they can do on the Introducing Stage.
