The David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation

The David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation
Founded in 1984 by wildlife artist and conservationist, David Shepherd CBE, to give something back to the animals he loves, the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) works with local communities to find long-term, sustainable solutions to help protect some of the world’s most endangered wildlife including elephant, rhino and tigers.  Community outreach, education, undercover investigation and anti-poaching form the core of DSWF’s conservation work.

Caring for Zambia’s orphaned elephants

Caring for Zambia’s orphaned elephants
DSWF established the first elephant orphanage in Zambia in response to the increasing number of baby elephants being orphaned by ivory poachers.Β  Requiring round-the-clock care to nurse them back to health and about ten years of rehabilitation both at the orphanage near Lusaka and at the release facility in Kafue National Park, rescuing elephants is a long-term commitment that needs consistent funding.

From grassroots to world stage

From grassroots to world stage
DSWF funds the everyday basics like boots, equipment, fuel, food and salaries that mean park rangers can safely protect wildlife in the field. On the world stage, DSWF lobbies to end the illegal trade in ivory and, through its TigerTime Campaign, seeks to end the trade in tiger parts from all sources.
