Patrick Kielty Meets Garth Brooks

Patrick Kielty travels Boston to meet country superstar Garth Brooks and discuss his life and work.

Put simply, Garth Brooks is the biggest country music star ever. Back in the early 90s he completely changed the nature of country music both as an artist and a businessman, and gave us some of the most memorable songs of all time, amongst them If Tomorrow Never Comes, Unanswered Prayers, Friends In Low Places and the anthemic The Dance. In America he's the biggest selling male solo artist of all time and right now, after a decade out of the spotlight, he's back on tour in the US and still breaking records hand over fist.

In a world exclusive, Patrick Kielty travelled to Boston to meet him and to bring back this intimate look at a real superstar. Garth discusses his life and work like you've never heard before, including his struggles as a parent, the tremendous influence of his mother and father on his personal and professional life, his inspirational love for wife Trisha Yearwood, his relationship with his fans and his unfulfilled ambition to be a professional baseball player. He opens up about the way he writes, the importance of music in his life and just what it feels like to not only be compared to, but to out-sell both Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson.

As well as spinning his favourites from his own catalogue, Garth also picks his favourites by other artists - Queen anybody? - and, for the first time anywhere in Europe, plunders his personal record collection to bring listeners a song by Colleen Carroll, his mother, a recording artist in her own right back in the 1950s.
