Pause For Thought

Pause For Thought

From Reverend Sharon Grenham-Toze, Anglican Priest and Prison Chaplain:

It’s been a crazy but fab few weeks for me. I’ve moved house, I’ve been appointed Chaplain to the High Sheriff of Bedfordshire and also bought a lovely new boat which was launched last weekend.

It’s been so mad that the other great event has been a bit pushed to one side - but I’ve suddenly realised - it’s less than 6 WEEKS to my wedding‼‼

There’s a fair bit in place: the venue’s booked, catering mostly planned, and we’ve had a wonderful time sampling the wine possibilities. The dress is nearly finished too, so really it’s only bits and bobs that I need to get sorted between now and then. I doubt I’ll ever stick to a diet, so I’ve counted that one out already‼!

But it doesn’t matter how much forward planning goes into it, it’s still really difficult to get an idea of how things will go on the day. It’s still all in my head at the moment, and I’m just hoping that the reality will somehow look vaguely the way I imagined. There’s bound to be things I hadn’t thought of, possibly even a few things go wrong - but I know the most important thing is I’m committing the rest of my life to this really rather wonderful man who’s changed my life completely.

I’ve been married before, so I know only too well that it’s not just a wedding day which sometimes doesn’t go as planned. Things in life don’t always turn out how you might imagine - in relationships, jobs, or any other important parts of our lives.

But my wedding day will the best and happiest way for me to live out the truth that it IS possible to have another chance; that we can go on learning and improving through the whole of our lives; and that sometimes life takes us totally by surprise, so we should never give up hoping. Who knows how life will turn out for Richard and me - but I can’t wait for it to start!
