Cai, 10, is suffering from the impact of a war happening many miles from his home in Wales. His soldier father Jon was wounded in that war and is now physically damaged and mentally fragile, Cai and his mother Maria are finding it hard to love this new man in their lives. On a windswept beach Cai befriends Amir, a refugee from the same war who has somehow got washed up alone on this strange shore. A stateless waif, Amir hopes desperately to be reunited with own father from whom he's become separated as they crossed the globe hoping to find a new and peaceful life.

The meeting of the boys from two different worlds is the catalyst for the beginning of healing for both.
