So Here I Am: 100 Years of Crofting

Documentary from the Â鶹ԼÅÄ archives in which writer and historian James Hunter examines the state of crofting 100 years after the crofters of Braes in Skye fought for land rights.

Chaidh am prògram So Here I Am: 100 Years of Crofting a chraoladh an toiseach air Â鶹ԼÅÄ 1 ann an 1982. Thug an sgrìobhadair, Seumas Mac an t-Sealgair sùil gheur air suidheachadh croitearachd ann an Alba ceud bliadhna às dèidh strì aimhreiteach croitearan a' Bhràigh san Eilean Sgitheanach gus sealbh fhaighinn air an fhearann aca fhèin.

Ged nach deach leotha, dh'adhbharaich an aimhreit mion-sgrùdadh air suidheachadh nan croitearan san fharsaingeachd agus ann an 1886, dhaingnich Achd nan Croitearan còirichean fearainn nan croitearan ann an lagh.

Ceud bliadhna às dèidh strì a' Bhràigh, chuir So Here I Am an cèill na h-oidhirpean gus tearainteachd fearainn a dhaingneachadh do chroitearan: na h-imhreitean às dèidh a' chiad chogaidh, Coimisean Mac an Tàilleir anns na 1950an agus Achd nan Croitearan ann an 1976 a leig le croitearan am fearann fhèin a cheannach.

In a documentary first broadcast in 1982, writer and historian James Hunter examines the state of crofting 100 years after the crofters of Braes in Skye fought for their right to land they had occupied.

Although unsuccessful, the protest resulted in the establishment of a Commission to look at the rights of crofters which led to the Crofting Act of 1886, guaranteeing security of tenure for the first time.

What additional efforts have taken place since to consolidate crofters' rights? We look at the land raids after WWI to the Taylor Commission of the 1950s, and the Crofting Act of 1976 which gave crofters the right to buy their own land.
