The Welshman Dannie Abse was one of the greatest of all postwar British poets. His work is funny, moving, personal, intellectual, disturbing - but always unmistakable.

Born into a Welsh-Jewish family in 1920s Cardiff, Dannie Abse had his first poetry collection accepted when he was just twenty one. Since then, he has published thirteen more, the last of which, Speak, Old Parrot, was published when he was in his tenth decade.

Dannie Abse died in September 2014, shortly after making this programme. Here, for the final time, he talks about his life and loves, his inspirations and the places that shaped him.
