Alien Invaders

This week we hear from the teams across Wales who are working to minimise and contain the damage being done by alien invaders β the non-native species that are causing problems on land and along the waterfront. Presenter Adam Walton learns why the Mitten Crab, from China, poses a threat on the Dee river and estuary in North East Wales. And he talks to a conservationist in Wrexham who enlists volunteers to go βbalsam bashingβ, basically weeding out the Himalayan Balsam and Japanese Knotweed in Ty Mawr country park. We hear about the fascinating slipper limpet, which could cause problems for Angleseyβs shellfish industry.Β And Tracy Cardwell reports on an early warning scheme for βaliensβ in our coastal waters, which is being led by scientists in Bangor.
