Paul Granjon
Paul Granjon is a Cardiff-based performance artist and robot designer who explores the relationship between human beings and machines and asks what aspects of our lives we’re willing to hand over to robots.
Μύ
Paul studied fine art in his native France but very early in his career he put down the paint brush and picked up a soldering iron and a computer programming manual instead. He moved to Cardiff in the mid-1990s and has since created an array of robots and performances which entertain audiences in theatres and galleries but also confront them with questions about the ethics of different technologies.
Μύ
Adam meets Paul at his workshop in Canton, Cardiff where he’s introduced to a few of Paul’s robots and gets to experience what it’s like to be a robot using Paul’s robotic perception kit. He also talks to computer scientist Dr. Grzegorz Cielniak from Lincoln University, who’s collaborating with Paul on a new performance, and to Prof. Noel Sharkey from Sheffield University about the ethics of using military robots.
