Edi Stark explores 200 years of pioneering mental health care in Scotland, focusing on case studies and memories from the Royal Edinburgh Hospital. There are more than a thousand letters written between 1873 and 1908 when Dr Thomas Clouston, the eminent psychiatrist was Medical Superintendent. Dr Allan Beveridge has carefully studied the letters which give a unique insight into the daily life of patients who were in the hospital more than a 100 years ago.
