Edi Stark explores 200 years of pioneering mental health care in Scotland, focusing on the Royal Edinburgh Hospital. The foundation of the Royal Edinburgh Hospital began with the tragic death of the poet Robert Fergusson in Bedlam. Andrew Duncan, a pioneering young doctor was so affected by his friends squalid circumstances that he began to raise funds to build a hospital that would care for people with mental health disorders in a more humane way. He was the first of many doctors who would help change attitudes and pioneer new treatments.
