Pause for Thought

Pause for Thought

From Canon Ann Easter, Chief Executive of a Charity and Chaplain to the Queen:

Μύ

Like most families, we have our Christmas traditions and one of them is that we find out how much the children have grown since last Christmas.Μύ My Dad used to measure my sister and me and makeΜύ a mark on the wall with our name against it, and now Christopher does the same for our grandchildren – each one solemnly stood up straight against the wall in our dining room to be measured.

Μύ

Milo's 9 and 7cms taller than last Christmas and this year played the carols on his guitar for the younger ones to sing; Arabella's grown 7.5cms and, at nearly 6, she's reading everything! Violet's 6cms taller and now she's 3 she goes to ballet classes – but Genevieve who's just 2 has grown a whopping 18.5cms in the year– about 7 inches -Μύ and is walking, talking, joining inΜύ the games and asking 'Annmar, where are my presents'!

Μύ

And I thought that I haven't got any taller – but have I grown in other directions this past year?

Μύ

I've been getting more involved in my community; we've joined the friends group of our local park for instance, and there I'm just one of many dog walkers, not the Chief Executive as I am when I'm at work; getting out of my comfort zone felt strange at first but then I found that looking at thingsΜύ from a different perspective has made me get a better understanding of the area.

Μύ

And another thing I've realised is that, while I’ll still campaign for women to be made bishops in the church of England, that is but one of the many issues that women struggle with, here and all across the world – I think we need to be feminists at all times and in all places!

Μύ

I believe that we grow our brains and our souls by living and then reflecting, doing and reflecting again. Gradually, we become more the person God wants us to be - and our lives and the world are better for it.

Μύ

They say that change is inevitable but growth is optional and sometimes growing is painful -Μύ but I reckon it's worth it!
