Red Gowns and Raisins

Edi Stark explores the traditions of Scotland's oldest university, St Andrews, and finds out what the institution stands for today as it marks its 600th anniversary.

The University of St Andrews, the oldest university in Scotland, is famous for its traditions - red gowns and pier walks, academic parents and their giving of 'raisins' - or, more frequently, wine or worse - on Raisin Sunday. As the university celebrates its 600th birthday, Edi Stark reveals what our oldest university stands for now.
