Time and Tune and the National Curriculum
The national curriculum for music in England states that it aims to ensure all pupils:
- perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians
- learn to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others, have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical excellence
- understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the inter-related dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations

Time and TuneΒ is a lively series built around learning songs, singing and musical activities and in particular encourages:
- good singing technique and music practice
- using the voice in different ways
- breathing and posture
- phrasing
- high/low; loud and quiet; fast and slow; rhythm
- higher and lower
- going up; going down
- steps; jumps; slidesThe series can be used to target key objectives from the curriculum, including to:
- learn to sing and to use their voices
-Β create and compose music on their own and with others
- understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the inter-related dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure
It also offers strong cross-curricular links to other key topics - for example the current series linking to History and the study of Romans, including the Romans in Britain.
