Solar Maximum

Adam Walton meets solar scientists to explore the dramatic and dynamic life of the Sun. The star at the centre of our solar system is currently at a peak ofΜύactivity, known as a solar maximum. With tonnes of charged particles being flung off the Sun at high speed, along withΜύsolar flares and sunspots, what effect does it have on the Earth and the other planets? Joining Adam are solar physicists Dr Huw Morgan of Aberystwyth's Department of Maths, Physics and Computer Science, and Dr Geraint Jones of UCL's Mullard Space Science Laboratory. We also hear from NASA solar scientist Dr David Hathaway, who closely monitors and predicts sun spot activity, and there's a trip to Cardiff University's Solar Observatory.
