Tears of a Clown

Lulu celebrates one of the greatest singers of romantic soul, Smokey Robinson.

Lulu celebrates the career of a man who is one of the greatest singers of romantic soul, with his beautiful high tenor voice, as well as being one of the best and most prolific songwriters and producers of popular hits for Motown Records - Smokey Robinson. Smokey reveals his musical influences and talks about the early days of the Miracles. A chance meeting with one of Jackie Wilson's songwriter, Berry Gordy, when the group had failed an audition - was to prove a historic moment not only for both men, but for the course of popular music in the 60's. It led to a great song-writing partnership and the birth of Motown Records.
Smokey's song-writing with Berry Gordy produced many of the early Miracles hits. Then Smokey started writing with the other Miracles, including Pete Moore and guitarist Marv Tarplin - and produced such classics as Ooo Baby Baby, You've Really Got a Hold on Me and the Tracks of My Tears. Smokey talks about the inspiration for his songs and how there is no pattern. With contributions from Smokey, Berry Gordy, singer Angie Stone, Lamont Dozier, Miracle Pete Moore, and Smokey's ex-wife & Miracle - Claudette Robinson.
