Autistica

One in a hundred people in the UK have autism, that’s 600,000. It is a neuro-developmental disorder that affects people’s communication and social abilities. In the most severe cases, people with autism may never learn to speak, and experience high levels of depression and anxiety. Relationships, friendships and employment can be extremely challenging.
Μύ

Autistica funds medical research to understand the causes of autism, improve diagnosis, and develop new treatments and interventions that will transform the lives of people with autism.

Μύ

We work closely with the autism community to address the issues that cause the greatest concern to them. Our aim is to move pioneering research from bench to bedside so that new discoveries can translate as quickly as possible into a better experience for all those affected by the condition.

Μύ

With your support, we will fund research to find the very first signs of autism in babies, so that support can be given as early as possible, giving children the best chance of developing language and social understanding. And we will also launch brand new research into mental health and ageing with autism, because autism is a lifelong condition, and people deserve support across the life-span.

Jamie

Jamie
Like many children with autism, Jamie doesn’t understand social rules, and although he goes to a special school, he is often alone in the playground. He has never had a friend come over to play.

Autism lasts a lifetime, but many adults have never been diagnosed, and there are very few treatment options available to support individuals through later life. Autistica is committed to funding new work to understand how autism changes throughout life and into old age.
