Child Maintenance

New research funded by the Nuffield Foundation has found that two thirds of single parents on out of work benefits do not receive any child maintenance from their child’s other parent. It also found that where it is paid, child maintenance plays a key role in lifting children out of poverty.ΜύThese findings come at a time when the government is planning to introduce a fee to use the Child Support Agency and to encourage parents to negotiate their own private arrangements. What impact will these proposed changes have on families who are unable to come to an arrangement? Jenni is joined by one of the authors of the report, Caroline Bryson, to talk about its findings and recommendations.
