Johnny Vaughan's Swinging Session

Johnny Vaughan presents music from an era that has been labelled the age of the 'crooner', the swinging singer with the Great American Song Book.

Johnny Vaughan presents music from an era that's been labelled the age of the "crooner", the swinging singer with the Great American Song Book.

Whatever we call the end of the 1940s and the 1950s today, its legacy is some of the greatest recordings in popular music performed by some of the greatest voices of all time - and the arrangements weren't bad either! Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, Nat King Cole, Dinah Washington, Dean Martin, just some of the everyday pop singers making everyday music in an era when people bought records in their millions.

But it's far from a dead and buried musical style, all tied up in memory and nostalgia. Some of today's headline singers - Michael Buble and Caro Emerald amongst them - look to this era as a jumping off point for their own talents, singers who take in the best from a past and reinvent it for their audiences today.
