The Woman's Hour Power List: Powerful women you won't have heard of

We assume that powerful women are people we know – but what about all those women who run private companies or public organisations? They’re often responsible for big budgets and hundreds or thousands of employees but we don’t always know their names. As part of our series to find the most powerful women in Britain Jenni is joined by Pam Jackson, a Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers, one of the biggest accounting firms in the UK and Maria Balshaw, Director of the Whitworth Gallery and Manchester Art Gallery to discusshow much power and influence such women wield?

Manchester’s Radical Women

From Peterloo to the Pankhursts, why has Manchester been such a fertile seedbed for the women’s rights movement ? Jenni explores the city’s history of female reformers with Michael Herbert , a trustee of the Working Class Movement Library and author of “Up Then Brave Women”: Manchester’s Radical Women 1819 – 1918.

Men in hats

It wasn’t long ago that hats were part of every self-respecting man’s daily attire. But what leads a man to wear a hat today? Hat connoisseur, Robert Elms and woolly hat wearing, Justin Moorhouse, join me to discuss what a hat says about a man.

Premature babies

Tomorrow is the second World Prematurity Day. It’s supported by global organisations including The World Health Organisation and Save the Children and will highlight the fact that premature birth is the biggest killer of new-born babies worldwide - causing the deaths of more than one million babies each year. The WHO say that 75% of these lives could be saved with some simple but effective, low-cost measures. To discuss the issues Jenni is joined by Dr Joy Lawn, Neonatologist and Director of Global Evidence & Policy for Save the Children.
