We Will Remember Them
Anna Magnusson hears stories of the WWII Arctic Convoys, examples of wartime sacrifice. The two-minute silence is marked at the Russian Arctic Convoys Memorial, Cove.
During WW II, the Arctic Convoys - merchant ships escorted by Navy vessels - sailed
to the Soviet Union delivering vital supplies. The voyages were desperately dangerous
and the conditions cruel.
Some of the sailings left from Loch Ewe, and today the people of Poolewe have taken the
commemoration of those who served on the Convoys to their hearts.
Anna Magnusson explores the stories of those who experienced the Arctic Convoys, stories
which capture the enormity of so many sacrifices made.
The 11 o'clock silence will be marked at the Russian Arctic Convoys Memorial at Cove, near Poolewe
in Wester Ross.
