Mike Scott from The Waterboys remembers the music that inspired him in the '70s, from David Bowie to Patti Smith. Plus Johnnie celebrates 35 years since Abba: The Album.

Johnnie Walker spins the hits and digs out the rarities from the decade of big hair, big flares and big riffs; the 1970s.

This week Mike Scott, founding member, chief songwriter and lead singer with The Waterboys remembers the music he fell in love with during the 1970s. Born in Edinburgh in 1958, Mike first fell in love with pop records at the tender age of 9, after which he noticed "there was music in my head all the time". From then on, there was no other career for Mike. He remembers his obsession with music during the 70s, spending his time at University writing about from Bowie, Bolan, the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and Patti Smith rather than English Literature and Philosophy!

Johnnie's featured album is the 5th album from one of the biggest and most ubiquitous bands of the 1970s. Abba: The Album is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year and Johnnie brings to life the making of the album and spins some of its hits from Take A Chance On Me to their iconic "goodbye song", written 5 years before the band split; Thank You For The Music.
