The launch of 500 Words, our short story competition for kids aged 13 and under.
Chris Evans launches 500 Words, the Radio 2 Breakfast Show's short story competition for children aged 13 or under. Judge Dame Jacqueline Wilson joins us with her top writing tips.
This morning on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show we launch 500 WORDS.
After the inaugural book-busting spectacular last year, our short story competition for anyone aged 13 or under is BACK!
The Chris Evans Breakfast Show wants to get the children of the UK firing up their imaginations and putting pen to paper, chisel to stone, quill to parchment, or just finger to keyboard. If you are aged 13 or under, you are invited to write a short story of 500 words about any made-up subject you like; and send it to us via the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 2 website. Last year nearly 30,000 of you took part - we want to beat that number in 2012!
Today we are speaking to the first of our expert judges DAME JACQUELINE WILSON, who has sold over 25 million books in the UK alone, and is best known for the phenomenally popular Tracy Beaker series.
Videos of her top tips for bold and brilliant writing are available on the Radio 2 website.
The writers of the Top 50 stories will be invited to watch the Chris Evans Breakfast Show broadcasting LIVE from the Hay Festival of Literature and the Arts on Friday 1st June 2012.
So if you have lots of ideas and just love writing stories then why not enter now?
And if you're a teacher, don't fear - 'Your Breakfast Show (Also) Needs You!' We want you to help us judge the initial stages of these amazing tales. Last year nearly 4000 of you volunteered to help us out, we couldn't have done it without you!
So get cracking kids, we can't wait to read what you write!
