Toby has just released his 15th studio album in a recording career which has spanned almost twenty years and has given him twenty nine country number ones.
Winning best vocalist of the year at the 2001 CMA awards, Toby Keith's profile was further raised the following year after the release of his song "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)," recorded in response to the September 11th attacks. With lyrics like " An' you'll be sorry that you messed with the U.S. of A/ 'Cos we'll put a boot in your ass, it's the American way" , the song divided opinions in America and generated controversy in the music community with Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks calling the song 'ignorant'. Since then Toby's straight talking, uncompromising songs have cemented him as a leading force in country music, and one of the most consistently successful acts in America. He talks to Bob about his new album 'Clancy's Tavern' and discusses the controversy which has dogged his career - a career which has made him the fourth best selling artists in the US ( ahead of Britney Spears, Madonna and Bruce Springsteen), and one of the top earning musicians in the world.
