Cliff: Congratulations

In an interview recorded to mark his 70th birthday, Sir Cliff Richard talks to Penny Smith about his life, his career, his fans, his musical tastes and his longevity.

In this his 71st year, Sir Cliff Richard celebrates his life, his music and his voice, as he chats to Penny Smith about his inspirations, his latest album and his longevity. He is Britain's best-selling pop star of the 20th century, with a distinctively large and loyal fanbase which has adoringly watched him evolve and develop his musical style throughout a 52 year career.

Cliff reached the age of 70 last October. He marked the occasion by playing a number of shows at London's Royal Albert Hall, and by releasing an album of swing music, putting his unique take on many much loved standards such as Let's Fall In Love, I've Got You Under My Skin and I Just Want To Make Love To You. It's been a lifelong ambition to sing the classics from The Great American Songbook. Why this style of music? Why choose the songs he's chosen? Why now? Cliff talks to Penny Smith about what motivates him and gives a rare insight into the man behind the music.
