Jenson Button - Champion of the World
Jenson Button tells Holly Samos the story of his title-winning Formula 1 season. Plus the scandals and politics off the track that dominated the front and back pages this year.
As fairytale stories go the tale of Jenson Button and the Brawn GP team was truly remarkable. In early December of 2008 Honda announced it was pulling out of F1 with immediate effect leaving Jenson Button and team in the wilderness and the very real prospect of not taking part in the 2009 season. Most people gave them little chance of even making the grid and zero chance of being even remotely competitive. They underestimated the will to win of both the team in Brackley and of Jenson Button.
In this programme Jenson Button tells Holly Samos about the roller coaster year that saw him in his tenth season in the sport achieve his ultimate ambition and become the 2009 Formula 1 World Champion. From the brilliant start that saw him win 6 out of the 7 first races, to the fight back from his rivals and the feelings of vulnerability that saw those around him take the fight to the wire, and that Champion drive that won him the title. Jenson talks about the scandals and politics off the track that dominated the front and back pages in 2009.
