Multi-award winning historical drama about Sir Thomas More's refusal to acknowledge Henry VIII's break with the Roman Catholic Church. Starring Paul Scofield.

Multi-award winning historical drama about Sir Thomas More's refusal to acknowledge Henry VIII's break with the Roman Catholic Church. King Henry VIII wants the pope to grant him a divorce from his barren wife to marry Anne Boleyn in order to get a male heir. Above all he wants the endorsement of his newly appointed chancellor and widely respected scholar Sir Thomas More. But More has a divine conscience and will not consent to a break with the church of Rome. The scene is set for a struggle between the power of a king and a man who loves God more than his life.

Paul Scofield's performance won one of the film's six Oscars, which also included the best picture award. Adapted by Robert Bolt from his own stage play.
