Adaptation of Simon Garfield's best-selling book of the everyday diaries of post war Britain.
May 8th 1945, the day peace is declared in Europe, four ordinary people are confronting the uncertainties that lie ahead. They are writing down their innermost thoughts and posting them to the Mass Observation Office, a remarkable project involving hundreds of people who have volunteered to chronicle their daily lives.
Maggie is a thoroughly modern woman in her mid-30s, 'B' is a gay antiques dealer terrified of being exposed, Edie a proud socialist, and Herbert a pensioner who divides his time between his allotment and writing appalling poetry. Their interweaving stories offer a vivid patchwork of the nation during these crucial months.
