New Voices

Across the year local Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ radio stations have auditions for new voices and we will detail them here.

To enter you will be asked to upload a video or audio recording which will be viewed and listened to by a panel of judges. If you’re chosen to go through to round two, you could end up on-air at your local Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ radio station.

Your recording does not need to be professionally made, we are more interested in what you've got to say than the quality of the recording so just make sure you grab our attention. See our FAQs section below for advice on recordings and file types.

Opportunities may vary, please read the specific entry instructions before submitting your audition.

Current Opportunities

We do not have any auditions open for New Voices at the moment. We will post here once there is another opportunity to submit.

FAQs

Who can audition?

We welcome auditions from anyone aged over 18 who is eligible to work in the UK. There is no “Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ” voice that we are specifically looking for and you don’t need prior experience to send us your audition.

Audition tips

  • Be yourself - When the panel hear your audition they need to be able to feel you in the room with them and so be your authentic self.

  • Use your time well - you have 60 seconds to share something with us, that is a lot more time than it may seem. We want to know what makes you unique. We are looking for a range and a mixture of entertainment and personality.

  • Enjoy yourself - when you are having fun, we are having fun and so enjoy yourself and that will shine through.

  • Talk directly into the microphone - this may sound obvious but make sure we can hear you. The recording does not have to be professional it just needs to be clear. See our recording tips below for more advice.

Recording tips

Audio

  • Know where the microphone is on your device and point that towards your mouth.
  • Use a voice recorder on your phone or app and keep a note of where the file saves.
  • Keep your device close to you when recording - a distance about the length of your hand (or 10-12cm) is a good guide. This will help reduce your background noise but is not too close to distort the sound.
  • If you have one, use headphones with an inbuilt microphone.
  • If possible record in spaces with low background noise, small spaces are better.
  • Listen back to your recording and if you are not happy you can re-record.

Video

  • Put your camera on selfie mode and makes sure it’s set to video.
  • Turn on ‘plane mode’ so you’re not interrupted.
  • Hold the phone horizontally.
  • Make sure you are in a space with good lighting but that the light is not directly behind you.
  • Put the camera somewhere stable or hold it as still as you can.
