Sun break on the Scottish borders
Michael Swift, researcher
Working in TV delivers a surprise every day and Glorious Gardens from Above has done that in bucket-loads! There was the unexpected appearance of a foraging hedgehog during my site-visit to The Patch Community Smallholding in Norfolk, much to the joy of the head gardener and me.
And there was a definite moment of elation as I watched the sun break through the autumnal morning mist in the Scottish Borders. I am not a morning person so, after a two hour wait to launch the hot air balloon, this minor miracle made my 5 a.m. start all the more worthwhile.
But the best surprise – and you probably think this is obvious, but I don’t mind – has come from the people I have met. I’m proud to say I have never enjoyed a garden more than through the eyes of those who have created them, cared for them, and lived among them. So thank you head gardeners of Britain: you’ve done a tremendous job of making life more colourful than ever before.
