How to recognise the meerkat queen, Maghogho.

Maghogho has a distinctive scar on her right cheek.

You can tell meerkats apart by:

• Permanent scars - although they very often get scrapes and bumps that look distinctive, then disappear under fur.

• Shape of their ears and whiskers.

• Their behaviour... in the Dynasties meerkat group some were always leading and some trailing behind so that gave us a clue

As you can see from this image, Maghogho has a scar on her cheek so is the easier meerkat to tell apart.

Although, even that scar was sometimes hard to spot when the meerkats are cold and puff up their fur!
