Meet the presenters of Jazz Now, the home of cutting-edge contemporary jazz on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 3.

Soweto Kinch

is an award-winning saxophonist and MC, who is one of the most dynamic jazz musicians on the UK scene, having twice won MOBO awards as Best Jazz Act. He has presented Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ programmes on the history of Harlem, Caribbean jazz and Joe Harriott, and also curates concerts and events across the world. His latest album, The Legend of Mike Smith, is inspired by Dante and the Seven Deadly Sins.

Emma Smith

Emma Smith is one of Britain’s most accomplished up-and-coming jazz singers, having appeared in a range of contexts from Sir John Dankworth’s band to the Jazz Vocal Project alongside Bobbie McFerrin. The third generation of a family of musicians, she began her singing career at 14, and the year after joined The National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO) as the featured vocalist. She is now a member of , and has also appeared at the 2015 Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Proms.

Al Ryan

Al Ryan is a well-known Irish trumpeter and broadcaster who now lives in the UK. He was a producer and presenter of jazz programmes for RTE and Lyric FM in Eire, covering of all Ireland’s major festivals, notably Cork Jazz, for nine years. He now broadcasts regularly for , as well as leading his own 17-piece big band in the UK and Ireland.
