Cheetah

Cheetahs are widely considered to be the most threatened big cat in all of Africa. Like many endangered animals they are susceptible to habitat loss and poaching. But cheetahs have the added disadvantage of being at the bottom of the pecking order among big predators. They don’t have the strength and brute force of other predators like lions, so when food is scarce it’s often the cheetahs that lose out.

In grassy plains like the Serengeti, juvenile mortality rates among cheetahs is as high as ninety five percent.
