ADULT SEASON
Baby Beauty Queens – Amber And Eden Ep 1/6

New series
Tuesday 27 July
8.30-9.00pm Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ THREE

From sashes and tiaras to diamante eyelashes and spray tans, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Three dives extensions first into the burgeoning world of the UK's child beauty pageant industry in this new, six-part series.

Exploring the pressures on young people to grow up too quickly, Baby Beauty Queens shines a spotlight on life for aspiring pageant queens and child models in an image-obsessed Britain.

Today's opening episode features seven-year-old Amber and six-year-old Eden as they prepare to become two of the youngest competitors in Mini Miss UK, while their motivated mothers Sally and Fathom go head-to-head in the Yummy Mummy section.

Amber has never entered a pageant before, but she is serious about fashion, and won't be told what to wear by anyone. Sally supports her daughter in whatever she wants to do, but she also believes she's got the looks to make it too. She's fiercely competitive and she wants her daughter to win, so she makes sure she has the best dresses, best make-up and has the best "talent". Mother and daughter's strong personalities mean sparks fly when it comes to making decisions about the pageant.

Eden has been brought up on catwalks as her mum, Fathom, owns a bespoke dress shop. She's won talent competitions with her singing, so she's expecting to do well this time round. Fathom thinks there's nothing wrong with entering a pageant, as long as the competition element isn't taken too far. She feels the pageant is preparing Eden for life and giving her experiences that will enrich her and give her confidence.

But will the two young girls have the talent and temperament to succeed in the competition and, more importantly, how will they cope with the results?

Baby Beauty Queens is part of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Three's Adult Season.

Jas (right) and her mum Bev
Jas (right) and her mum Bev

Jasmine, or Jas to her friends, like any typical teenager loves shopping, clothes, and gossiping with her mates. She lives in North Wales with her mum Bev, chihuahua Pebbles, and her grandparents Norman and Margaret. But, unlike most teenagers, Jas and her mother are living with a rare and undiagnosed form of dwarfism. Jas has also been registered carer for her mum since the age of 11.

Small Teen, Big World reveals what daily life is like for Jas living with her condition – coping with the pressure of everyday teenage life, while caring for her mother, who also has respiratory problems.

The programme follows Jas in the run-up to her 16th birthday. It's a pivotal time in any teen's life, but Jas is preparing not only to attend the Little People Of America convention in New York, but also to leave North Wales for a new life of independence in the UK, and meet her real father for the first time.

While in New York, Jas meets others who share her condition and who have been attending the conference for years, some of whom have met future partners and fallen in love – her hopes are high. There is also an emotional surprise for grandparents Norman and Margaret, who are in New York visiting Jas's aunt.

As her 16th birthday approaches Jas begins to make early preparations for contacting and meeting her father. As the pressure builds the programme follows the affect it has on Jas and Bev's relationship.

Small Teen, Big World is part of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Three's Adult Season on TV and online.

And Afghan hound Destiny is overjoyed that Gary has finally entered her into the South Docklands Area Landlord Association Pub Dog of the Month category. However, when she catches fleas from Nelson's new girlfriend it looks as if her chance of winning is in jeopardy.

THE CALL OF THE WILD
Britain By Bike – The Welsh Borders Ep 2/6

Tuesday 27 July
8.30-9.00pm Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ FOUR

Clare Balding cycles through the Welsh borders this week
Clare Balding cycles through the Welsh borders this week

Clare Balding heads westwards as she continues her pedal-powered odyssey across Britain, rediscovering the magical world of Fifties cycling by following the tracks of author Harold Briercliffe.

Briercliffe, who wrote landmark guidebooks The Cycling Touring Guides, noted the local tradition of The Bride's Tree during his original visit to Aston-on-Clun, which is the start of Clare's journey through the Welsh borders. This centuries-old custom involves villagers decorating a black poplar tree every 29 May by tying coloured cloths to the branches.

Heading westwards, Clare travels through the rolling countryside immortalised in AE Housman's A Shropshire Lad, towards Clunton where a quick left turn takes her to Cwm House. It was here that author Bruce Chatwin found the inspiration for one of his greatest books, On The Black Hill, when he stayed in 1979.

Next, Clare pedals back to Clun where Briercliffe had commented on the strange 17th-century costume worn by the locals. They were almsmen of Trinity Hospital, a charitable institution set up to provide homes for agricultural workers who lost their tied cottages on retiring after a lifetime working the land. Clare meets the almshouse warden, Reverend Richard Shaw, and discovers they are still operating today.

Back on her bike – or rather Harold Briercliffe's bike – Clare heads towards the Welsh border via Newcastle and Kerry, crossing the magnificent ancient earthwork Offa's Dyke to her final destination, Newtown. This was formerly the location for one of Britain's biggest cycle manufacturers.

Here, Clare meets local cycling ace Barry Hoban, who was one of Britain's most successful Tour de France competitors, and learns of the factory's secret life making Second World War armaments.

Britain By Bike is part of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Four's season celebrating outdoors Britain – The Call Of The Wild.

Horrible Histories Ep 13/13

High Definition programme
Tuesday 27 July
5.15-5.45pm CΒι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ and Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ HD

Horrible Histories' ratty host is throwing his own disco, featuring all of the hilarious comedy songs from the series, plus the rousing tune Born To Rule from the first series, as the hugely popular comedy sketch show concludes.

The Savage Songs Special features punky Celt Boudicca, Spartan School Musical, a pop-tastic number all about how Spartan boys became warriors; and the Vikings contribute a rock-filled song about their invasion of England.

Incan emperor Pachacuti entertains with his cheesy pop song all about his tribe's scary habits (like drinking from the skulls of their dead enemies and using their arms for flutes); posh Charles II channels his inner Eminem to rap all about how he's the original merry monarch; and Blackbeard the Pirate tunefully explains his scurrilous ways.

Georgian George finally gets to go solo; the Cowboys tell all about the reality of life in the saddle; there's the educational Victorian inventions song; and some original girl power from the Second World War ladies. Finally, the four King Georges form the ultimate boy band with their performance of Born To Rule.

Horrible Histories stars Simon Farnaby, Mathew Baynton, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Lawrence Rickard, Ben Willbond, Lawry Lewin, Alice Low, Katy Wix and Nathaniel Martello White.

Horrible Histories is simulcast on the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ HD channel – the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's High Definition channel, available through Freesat 108, Freeview 50, Sky 143 and Virgin 108.
