Basil Brush makes Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Proms debut at RoyalΒ AlbertΒ Hall

Basil Brush will be making an appearance at the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Proms this Bank Holiday weekend, as he presents a children's extravaganza at the Royal Albert Hall, broadcast live on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 3.

The first of two family-orientated Proms on Monday 30 August, the concert offers a dazzling journey through the life and times of an orchestra, packed with an enthralling display of popular orchestral showpieces alongside dance, masked performers and plenty of surprises along the way. The morning concert is designed to introduce younger ears to the full splendours of the classical symphony orchestra through participatory moments and familiar music.

Basil presents from the stage alongside Radio 3 presenter Louise Fryer and conductor Nicholas Collon, who leads the dynamic young professionals of the Aurora Orchestra, as well as members of the National Children's and National Youth Chamber Orchestras, which boasts players as young as 10 years old.

The concert features recognisable classics including The Flight Of The Bumblebee, by Rimsky Korsakov, and Prokofiev's Montagues And Capulets, from Romeo And Juliet – all brought to life with the help of masked dancers, contemporary street dance and Brazilian Capeoira.

Basil says of the event: "Ah, the glorious Royal Albert Hall! Brings back fond memories for me when I was a young Brush. In fact, I believe my great great great grandfather, Sir Lancelot Brush, once presented in front of an audience here with his trademark line 'Ye Boom! Ye Boom!'.

"Carrying on this fine tradition I, too, am looking forward to presenting at what is shaping up to be a magnificent Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Promenade Concert. With plenty of music and dancing it's bound to be splendiferous fun for the whole family!"

The concert marks the pinnacle of this season's family and children's events and is followed by a family-orientated Prom at 7pm that evening.

The later performance sees the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Concert Orchestra debuting their new principle conductor, Keith Lockhart, in an evening of English classics and US pizzazz.

Keith leads a giant audience-participation moment in You Must Remember This – A Cinematic Singalong, and a Proms Family Orchestra and Chorus made up of families from Cornwall and London join the full force of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Concert Orchestra to perform the world premiere of PK, a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ commission from Graham Fitkin.
