Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Nottingham celebrates local history and heritage with an invitation for its listeners to enjoy free family entertainment for the day on Sunday 29 March 2009.

Following the successes of its Big Night Out campaigns in previous years Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Nottingham's Big Day Out encourages local people to enjoy Nottinghamshire's heritage by visiting nearby cultural attractions.

The offer to explore the county's many museums and visitor attractions comes at a time when many parents are challenged to think up new ways to entertain their kids during their Easter break from school.

Many of the county's 30 or so museums have agreed to waive their entrance fees on Sunday 29 March and Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Nottingham's Big Day Out team will be out and about to meet the people making the most of what's on offer in their area.

Andy Whittaker, Radio Nottingham's breakfast show presenter, came up with the idea. He says: "I think we're all very good at visiting museums and attractions when we go to other towns and cities in the UK, but when did you last go to the museum on your doorstep?

"There have been some high profile cases of cutbacks in funding recently at some local attractions, so the Big Day Out is about making the most of the fascinating venues we already have.".

Andy begins the build-up to the Big Day Out from today (Tuesday 17 March) with details of what's on offer at participating attractions. A full listing of all the museums and visitor centres taking part also goes live today at bbc.co.uk/nottingham.

A huge and diverse range of visitor attractions are participating in Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Nottingham's Big Day Out, including the delightfully relaxing Ollerton Watermill; Newark Air Museum, for aviation buffs; and Nottingham Castle – for those who dig archaeology!
