Half Moon Investigations
Rory Elrick as Fletcher 'Half' Moon

Half Moon Investigations

Rory Elrick is Fletcher "Half" Moon

Fletcher Moon, known as Half Moon to his friends, is a fully qualified private investigator from the Bernstein online Detective Academy.

Ìý

He is not the tallest or most confident 13-year-old in the playground but he sees things that his school friends don't.

Ìý

Since graduating, he has solved all sorts of minor mysteries at school and at home. Now, if a crime has been committed in the playground he wants to know about it, and he will stop at nothing in his unrelenting quest for justice.

Ìý

Moon excelled at the online course (the course is for adults, but Moon confesses to Mia that he wasn't entirely honest about his age).

Ìý

By passing the course, Half Moon earned his badge and, in his mind, the right to be taken seriously as an investigator. Moon is a smart kid.

Ìý

Scottish-born 13-year-old Rory Elrick plays Moon and says if he wasn't an actor he would like to be a lawyer or a politician.

Ìý

“You can't change the world, but you can get your voice heard and do good things.

Ìý

"Moon, in some ways, is quite similar to me. He also tries hard and he's quite inquisitive and he believes in the truth and in justice, even though that sounds cheesy! He does well in tests and, at the start, he is a bit of a swot – but he gets a bit less swotty as the series goes on.

Ìý

"The series will be enjoyable to watch because it is funny, not too serious, but it's got a point – it is silly but cleverly written. The storylines and mysteries are brilliant, reading the script was like reading a book."

Ìý

Rory admits that along with watching his favourite TV series like Life On Mars he also enjoys watching the News and Question Time.

Ìý

"I probably wouldn't want to be a detective, but it is fun doing the show. It is an amazing feeling when you solve a case – even when you are only acting it!"

Ìý

When author Eoin Colfer visited the set, Rory and his fellow cast members were excited to meet him.

Ìý

"None of Eoin's books have been made into anything visual so it was great to hear from him how it feels to see someone who has until now, only been in his head and imagination. It was interesting to meet him because he is the one who came up with the character."

Ìý

At school Rory particularly enjoys Chemistry, History, English and Maths but his passion is debating and public speaking.

Ìý

"There is a Rotary Club Public Speaking competition every year that I have entered for the past two years. I have got to the final twice but the first year I didn't win, and the second year I couldn't actually go to the final because I had a drama thing on."

Ìý

Rory attends the Scottish Youth Theatre where the producers of Half Moon Investigations discovered the talented youngster.

Ìý

"I've have going there to Saturday classes since I was three. My mum and dad thought that it would develop my confidence. I don't think I lacked confidence as such, and I found that I really enjoyed it and I still go there."

Ìý

Half Moon Investigations is the first time Rory has performed in front of a TV camera.

Ìý

"I don't usually get nervous, but I haven't actually done this before so it was a new experience and I was a bit nervous to start with because I didn't know what to expect.

Ìý

"I just hope my friends at school like it. They know that I am filming something but they don't really know what it is. I was away from school for about 12 weeks and had a tutor instead which is a totally different experience. It has some good points but you are not with your friends."

Ìý

Rory also had to sacrifice a summer holiday in Italy with his family and stayed home with his grandparents.

Ìý

"It was really weird but my grandparents were ecstatic and really supportive. Half Moon Investigations has been a really good experience and we are all really good friends."
