Toby takes over the trowel in the Gardeners' World

Toby Buckland is the new main presenter for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Two's Gardeners' World, after Monty Don stood down earlier this year due to ill health.

Μύ

Toby trained and worked as a rose and pinks nurseryman and gardener before qualifying in landscape management at Greenwich University.

Μύ

He is known for his inspiring, hands-on approach, and for his artistic garden features made from plants and recycled materials.

Μύ

His Ethical Garden at this year's Gardeners' World Live won him Gold and Best In Show.

Μύ

Toby has presented and guest presented for many gardening shows, including Gardeners' World Live, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Front In The Garden, and Real Wrecks for the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ, and RHS Garden Challenge and Weed It & Reap for UKTV Style.

Μύ

Nick Shearman, Commissioning Editor, In-House, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Knowledge, says: "It's brilliant news that Toby is joining the Gardeners' World team.

Μύ

"He is hugely likeable and enthusiastic and brings to the team his love of recycling and ethical gardening."

Μύ

"He is an excellent horticulturalist who will bring fresh energy to Gardeners' World, and with the rest of the team will potentially bring new viewers to what is already a fantastic Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ show."

Μύ

Toby says: "To be asked to be the new presenter of Gardeners' World, following in the footsteps of greats such as Geoff Hamilton, Alan Titchmarsh and Monty Don is a complete thrill and honour."

Μύ

Toby will join Gardeners' World regulars Carol Klein and Joe Swift on Friday 12 September when the main series returns to Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Two after the summer specials.

Μύ

He says he can't wait to go to Berryfields and get his hands in the soil.

Μύ

Toby say: "Monty and the team have done some wonderful things there in recent years, and I look forward to working with the team and continuing that, but obviously I'm keen to make my own mark there too!"

Μύ

He adds: "For me gardening isn't just a hobby, it's a way of life that keeps you in touch with the seasons and creates a constant supply of things to look forward to.

Μύ

"It's a craft made up of lots of different skills, and once you get good at them it gives you a joy and satisfaction like no other.

Μύ

"Sharing these skills is what Gardeners' World is all about and what I intend to bring in spades to Berryfields."

Μύ

Toby has built a garden for poet laureate Andrew Motion, and was briefly a gardener to novelist Tom Sharpe.

Μύ

He has also written several gardening books, including How To Make Your Garden Grow.

Μύ

Gardeners' World, now in its 41st year, is the longest-running gardening programme on UK television.
