Ben Wilson appointed Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Deputy Head of Press

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ has appointed Ben Wilson to the new role of Deputy Head of Press in the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Press Office.

Reporting to Donald Steel, Head of Press, Ben will be a senior spokesman for the Corporation, working across the full range of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's corporate and other communications activities.

Currently Head of News at the Department for Communities and Local Government, Ben will take up his post later in the Spring.

He succeeds Sarah Williams, who left at the end of last year to take up a senior role in Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Worldwide.

Announcing the appointment, Donald Steel, Head of Press, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ, said: "I am delighted to have someone of Ben's calibre join the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Press Office team.

Ben trained as a reporter and was named Southern Newspapers Young Journalist of the Year in 1998, before joining Brighton & Hove Council as a Press Officer later that year.

He joined the Cabinet Office in 1999 as a Senior Press Officer and moved to the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister in a similar role two years later.

From 2001 to 2005, he was a Senior Press Officer at Number 10.

This was followed by an appointment as Deputy Head of News at the Department for Education and Skills between 2005 and 2006, during which time he was also seconded to the British & Irish Lions team as a media consultant working to Sir Clive Woodward on the 2005 Lions tour of New Zealand.

He was appointed to his present role in the Department for Communities and Local Government in August 2006.
