Ed Williams appointed Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Head of Corporate Communications


The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ announced today the appointment of Ed Williams, currently Director of Corporate Affairs at Reuters, as Head of Corporate Communications.

Ed Williams will have overall responsibility for the development and implementation of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's communications strategy.

He will lead the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Press Office, Corporate and Parliamentary Affairs and a significant web publishing operation, and will work directly with the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Director-General and the Executive Board.

He succeeds Sally Osman, who left the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ in September to pursue other interests after a distinguished period in the role. He takes up his new post in the first quarter of 2008.

Ed Williams will report into Tim Davie, Director of Marketing, Communications & Audiences, and will provide leadership and strategic coordination to the communication professionals across the entire Corporation.

Announcing the appointment, Tim Davie said: "Ed Williams brings an impressive breadth and depth of corporate communications experience to this pivotal role within the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ.

Ed Williams has worked in communications in both a consultancy and corporate setting.

Μύ

Before his current role as Director of Corporate Affairs at Reuters, he worked as Director of Corporate Communications for 3, Hutchinson Whampoa's telecoms business in the UK.

Μύ

Prior to that he spent almost six years at Brunswick Group LLP, advising on media relations, corporate positioning, crisis management and campaigns, as well as working on merger and acquisition communications.

In an individual capacity, he has worked as media consultant to General Wesley Clark during his time as a witness at the Milosevic trial, and to Emma Bonino supporting various aspects of her foreign policy work.

He has also been a pro-bono adviser to the International Crisis Group, the non-profit conflict resolution organisation.

Prior to a career in corporate communications, he worked at Reuters Television and GMTV in various positions including, producer, reporter and News Editor.

He trained as a journalist at London News Service and spent time as a freelance news features writer.

He joined Reuters in March 2006 as a media adviser and speech writer to the CEO, and was appointed Director of Corporate Affairs in Spring 2007.
