The Age Of Excess

Μύ

London was steeped in excess of every kind in the middle of the 18th century. One of the biggest cities on Earth, it was home to prostitutes, erotic entrepreneurs and sex clubs catering for every deviation imaginable.

Μύ

In this film, writer and broadcaster Matthew Sweet delves into a culture characterised by unrestrained indulgence in which bawdy ballads, licentious pamphlets and erotic prints helped set the aesthetic tone of 18th century England.

The Curse Of Success – The Story Of John Cleland

Μύ

An instant bestseller when it was published at the end of the 1740s, Fanny Hill made author John Cleland's fortune, yet he always felt it ruined his reputation and blighted his literary career.

Μύ

The Curse Of Success examines the life of a richly talented writer, whose most famous work was banned for more than 200 years.

Dance Britannia

Μύ

Dance Britannia is the definitive history of popular dance in Britain from 1900 to 2000. This new series tells the story of Britain as a dancing nation in the 20th century, from Latin and ballroom to folk, pop, hustle and rave.

Μύ

Tapping into a rich source of archive footage and contemporary interviews, the series explores what dancing means to the British and what it reveals about our national identity. It also examines how dance fashions mirror British society as a whole, reflecting changing attitudes towards sex, romance, class, race and economic and social aspirations.

Fanny Hill

Μύ

Alison Steadman, Hugo Speer and Samantha Bond star in Andrew Davies's saucy adaptation of John Cleland’s notorious novel, Fanny Hill.

Μύ

The drama tells the story of a young country girl who falls into a life of prostitution in 18th century London. Forced to take a succession of lovers in order to survive, she slowly rises to respectability – but not before she's learnt to enjoy the fruits of her labour.

Μύ

Alison Steadman plays Mrs Brown, the madam who introduces Fanny to the "oldest profession in the world"; Samantha Bond plays Mrs Coles, owner of a rival establishment; and Hugo Speer is Mr H, one of Fanny's more generous, but demanding, benefactors. Newcomer Rebecca Night plays the eponymous heroine, whilst Fanny's true love, Charles, is played by Alex Robertson.

Flight Of The Conchords

Μύ

Cult comedy Flight Of The Conchords touches down for its UK television premiere this autumn.

Μύ

The series follows the daily trials and tribulations of New Zealand's "fourth most successful folk act" – Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement – as they try to break on to the world stage and make a name for themselves in New York.

Μύ

However, things are not looking promising for the boys. So far, they've managed to find a manager, whose "other" job is at the New Zealand Consulate; a fan who is an obsessed, married woman; and a friend who is the owner of the local pawn shop; but not much else...

Μύ

In each episode, Bret and Jemaine's lives, loves and disappointments are catalogued and analysed in the duo's original comic songs. Utilising the boys' particular brand of quirky humour, Flight Of The Conchords is a new kind of off-beat comedy.
