Iain Hosack, a friend from Alan's parents' village, said: "Well Alan, I am having a birthday today as well. I am 102-years-old. I'm not having a party this year, Alan, but next year we'll have a party and you'll be there. All the best, old boy."
Μύ
Alastair Hetherington, Alan's uncle, added: "Hello Alan. I am here in Dollar and just wanted to wish you a very happy birthday on this very special day. We are thinking of you and just wish you could be with us at this moment. When you come back to Scotland Alan I want to take you for a long walk in the hills behind the village and we can climb some of those peaks that we have always talked about doing. Wishing you well and longing to see you. I send you my love."
Μύ
Alan's sister, Katriona Johnston, sent this message: "Happy birthday Al. I'm missing you lots. Don't worry about Mum and Dad, I'm keeping their spirits up as you know I can. Lots of love."
Μύ
These messages come as a series of events are held today to mark Alan's birthday. He was abducted in Gaza at gunpoint 66 days ago.
