The sixth annual Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio 3 Awards For World Music Poll Winners' Concert 2007 will be held at the Barbican on Sunday 27 May – the culmination of a weekend of events featuring the cream of world music artists and broadcasters.

Ìý

This year, for the first time, the concert will be available to watch as a live webcast on bbc.co.uk/radio3 – as well as broadcast live on Radio 3.

Ìý

Shortly after the event, seven on-demand broadband films will be available on bbc.co.uk/radio3. These will include individual films of all the live performances from the artists playing on the night, exclusive backstage footage, interviews with the winners, vox-pops and highlights from the weekend events at the Barbican.

Ìý

The concert will also be available to listen again in the week after the event at bbc.co.uk/radio3.

Ìý

Radio 3 will be hosting a raft of free events at the Barbican Centre over the Bank Holiday weekend (26-27 May), including a live broadcast of Radio 3's World Routes, featuring performances from World Music Award winners Maurice el Médioni and Ghada Shbeir on Saturday 26 May, and a live performance by the winner of the Newcomer Award, K'Naan, on Sunday 27 May.

Ìý

The Freestage will also host world music labs with Â鶹ԼÅÄ presenters Charlie Gillett and Gilles Peterson discussing world music and radio production.

Ìý

The Radio 3 Awards For World Music are organised in partnership with WOMEX, fRoots, Songlines, the Rough Guides and event producers Serious. The awards compilation CD is produced by Union Square Music.

Ìý

The nominations for the awards are chosen by the delegates to WOMEX, the World Music Expo. The 2,000 or so delegates at this annual event each have a vote in all of the awards categories, except for the Album Of The Year and the Audience Award.

Ìý

In addition, music specialists at the Â鶹ԼÅÄ World Service choose one nomination in four of the five geographical categories. All of the nominations are then reviewed by the Radio 3 Awards For World Music jury (details of which can be found at bbc.co.uk/radio3) who choose the winning acts.

Ìý

There are two categories in which the jury has no say. The Album Of The Year is voted on by a panel of critics assembled by fRoots magazine. The Audience Award is chosen by the general public, who vote for their own choices from the overall nominations list. It is the one award which is only revealed on the day of the Awards Poll Winners Concert.
