Elections 2007 on Radio Five Live

In the run up to local and national elections across the UK, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Five Live cuts through the party political agendas and gives five families a chance to tell the truth about what matters to them, not the politicians.

Μύ

Radio Five Live does what it does best, and offers everyday people the chance to speak at a time when the focus is usually on Westminster.

Μύ

Over five days on the mid-morning phone-in, from Monday 23 April, five families from Inverness, Huddersfield, Wrexham, Solihull and London will push the politicians aside and speak frankly about what makes life good and bad for them.

Μύ

The phone lines will be open for listeners to debate the points raised and compare and contrast views, stimulating debate about the real issues affecting the British public today.

Μύ

On Monday 30 April, Simon Mayo will be in Grantham, Lincolnshire to host a special local election debate.

Μύ

The invited audience and a panel will be debating the question – is your bin collection rubbish? Refuse collection is currently a hot topic, bringing in environment concerns, council tax and privacy issues.

Μύ

This summer, Grantham will have fortnightly collections throughout the area and it's a controversial subject locally. The programme will include people fined because their bin lids won't shut; taken to court because they've put the wrong kind of rubbish in the bin; and those angry at the idea of spy cameras on bins. The live debate broadcasts from noon to 1pm.

Μύ

Radio Five Live will also broadcast interviews and comment from key political figures and, as the polls close at 10pm on 3 May, bring all the local and national election news from across the country, beginning in the Anita Anand Show.

Μύ

Then on 4 May from 1am, Simon Mayo and John Pienaar present an election special for Radio Five Live.

Μύ

The five-hour programme comes from London, Glasgow, Cardiff and elsewhere as the results come in for the Scottish Parliament, the Welsh Assembly and the English local councils.

Μύ

There is also full coverage of the elections on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ TV and online at bbc.co.uk/election2007.
