Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Scotland hits the road to the Scottish Parliament elections

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Scotland has unveiled a wide-ranging offering of programmes which will take the big issues to audiences across the country and follow all the twists and turns of the Scottish Parliament election campaign.

Μύ

Presenters and reporters will be travelling around the country gauging the views of the electorate and scrutinising the policies of the parties vying for the votes of the people of Scotland.

Μύ

As the countdown to the Scottish Parliament elections on Thursday 3 May 2007 begins, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Scotland has finalised a packed schedule to provide in-depth and accessible coverage on television, radio and online.

Μύ

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Scotland's politics and news teams will also be bringing all the results and stories from the council elections taking place on the same day.

Μύ

Early in the campaign the results of a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Scotland/ICM opinion poll will be released, providing plenty of talking points as coverage of the election moves into top gear.

Μύ

And on election night, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Scotland will have cameras at every count for the first time, ensuring an unprecedented level of coverage from the polls.

Μύ

The news direct from the counts will be analysed on the election night special, The Scottish Election, on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ One Scotland which will be presented by Glenn Campbell with Jackie Bird and Political Editor Brian Taylor completing the team.

Μύ

During the course of the campaign a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ election bus will be making stops across the country with Jackie Bird, Sally Magnusson and David Robertson bringing the latest on the poll contest for Reporting Scotland viewers.

Μύ

Other programmes, including Newsdrive on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Scotland, will also report from the election bus during the campaign.

Μύ

Gordon Brewer will interview the major players during a run of Newsnight Scotland, which will have a ten minute extension to its usual opt-out.

Μύ

There will also be three 50-minute specials from different venues across the country.

Μύ

Each programme in The Big Debate series, hosted by Anne Mackenzie on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ One Scotland on 11, 18 and 25 April, will give voters and politicians the chance to exchange their views on one big electoral topic.

Μύ

Two one-off documentaries will also form part of the output.

Μύ

Sally Magnusson travels to Iceland to compare the level of political engagement of the islanders to the approach of Scots at election time.

Μύ

And the documentary A Final Fix? tells the stories of Scottish women undergoing a radical treatment for drug addiction and will be followed by a Newsnight Scotland debate.

Μύ

On Radio Scotland, Scotland At Ten goes on the road from 23 April to 2 May with Colin MacKay and Derek Bateman questioning candidates on the issues raised by residents of Shetland, Aberdeen, Inverness Glasgow, Dundee, Selkirk, Dumfries and Edinburgh.

Μύ

Scotland Live will also be live from towns and cities across the country, speaking to the people who will make a difference, the voters as well as the candidates.

Μύ

The election night programme on Radio Scotland will be presented by Derek Bateman with Colin MacKay and a studio panel plus reports from around the country.

Μύ

The Gaelic debate programme, Cunntas, will broadcast on Thursday 26 April from Edinburgh. It will hosted by Derek Mackay with a panel comprised of representatives of the main political parties in Scotland and an audience drawn from across the country.

Μύ

On Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Nan Gaidheal, Donald Morrison and James MacDonald will present coverage of election night and an extended Aithris Na Maidne the following day will take stock of the results.

Μύ

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Scotland news online has a dedicated Election 2007 website providing background material and day-to-day coverage of the campaign. It can be accessed by going to bbc.co.uk/scottishelections.

Μύ

After nominations close on 11 April, an interactive and clickable map, showing a full list of candidates for the Holyrood elections, will be available.

Μύ

It will be postcode searchable and contain constituency profiles and past election results. There will be a separate interactive map for the council election.
