Tommy Zoom started life on the CBeebies website as a character originally developed to raise environmental awareness and to help boys' literacy.

The adventure stories of Tommy, his dog Daniel and his super-hero alter-ego Tommy Zoom, focus on saving the planet from ecological disaster caused by his evil nemesis, Polluto.

Aimed at the four to six-year-olds, Tommy Zoom deals with the everyday problems of life, especially the ecological and ethical – leaking taps, saving electricity, finding someone else's lost property.

The series mixes drama with animation. It is narrated by Tommy's dog, Daniel and together they work out the solutions to everyday problems by consulting their animated alter-egos.

LIVE ACTION: When Tommy goes to give Daniel a refill for his water bowl, he leaves the kitchen taps running – full blast! The sink overflows, and floods onto the kitchen floor.

ANIMATION: Tommy and Daniel stop Polluto from pulling a giant plug out of a reservoir, to stop him wasting the world's water.

LIVE ACTION: Tommy realises what he has done, and cleans the water from the floor immediately. He then hears some other taps running, and sees that the bath taps have been left on unnecessarily. He turns them off in order to save water.

Steel Thunder
LIVE ACTION: Daniel and Tommy are playing out in the garden, when Daniel discovers a brooch hidden in the soil. He shows it to Tommy, who runs into the house to show Mum. Mum is delighted, as it's the brooch she lost a long time ago. She tells Tommy that she will buy him a treat. Daniel is upset that Tommy has taken all the glory for himself, and sulks while Tommy and Mum go to the shops.

ANIMATION: Tommy stops a burst water pipe from flooding the town, but instead of getting the praise, a superhero called Steel Thunder takes his glory. Tommy and Daniel eventually discover that Steel Thunder is really Polluto, and they expose him as a fraud!

LIVE ACTION: Tommy comes back from the shops and gives Daniel a ribbon and a new ball – he told Mum after all!

LIVE ACTION: Tommy's been dashing around all morning and he needs some energy but what should he eat – a healthy banana, or another slice of the delicious chocolate cake?

ANIMATION: Tommy Zoom arrives in a sweet shop full of amazing, scrumptious, tempting sweeties. He's soon hooked on their sugar. While Tommy Zoom is engrossed, Daniel uncovers Polluto as the shop owner and almost finds himself coated in sugar until Tommy Zoom comes to his rescue.
