Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ radio websites set standard for weekly users
|
Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Audio & Music has begun reporting weekly unique user agents visiting its websites – as opposed to monthly users – to offer more reliable figures.
Μύ
The new stats show Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio websites averaged 2.7 million unique user agents a week in January 2007 – a year-on-year increase of 8%.
Μύ
Unique user calculations for the sites are based on a count of cookies – a small file which identifies the computer when a user visits a website.
Μύ
But cookies cannot be directly equated to numbers of people, as Chris Kimber, Managing Editor, Audio & Music Interactive, explains:
Μύ
"Cookies are often deleted and when this happens – and a new cookie is issued – the new cookie will be counted as a separate user. This is often referred to as 'cookie churn'. Its main effect is to over inflate the number of users over longer reporting periods, hence our move away from monthly unique user agents."
Μύ
Among the networks, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 1 leads the way with nearly a million users each week (968,255) while Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 4 is next in line with 577,323 users – a 24% year–on–year increase.
Μύ
Radio 4 enjoyed another month of impressive growth in overall online usage, logging record live and on–demand listening hours in January. The Archers continued to ride high in the on–demand listening chart, exceeding a million on–demand listening requests for a third consecutive month.
Μύ
Elsewhere, the rise of Russell Brand continued on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 2. The show's podcast was downloaded 303,000 times in January – up 139% on December's total – and listened to 90,000 times on-demand via the Radio Player.
Μύ
Total downloads of programmes in the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Download and Podcast Trial increased by 25% last month, resulting in a record 7.3 million successful downloads.
