Jane Horrocks - Biography

Μύ

Jane Horrocks first came to prominence in Mike Leigh's acclaimed film, Life Is Sweet, in 1991 - for which she won the Best Supporting Actress prize at the Los Angeles Film Critics' Awards.

Two years later, she became a familiar face on our television screens in the role of Bubble, Edina's air-headed assistant in Jennifer Saunders' Absolutely Fabulous.

Equally at home in comedy and drama, Jane's numerous TV roles include Hunting Venus, with Martin Clunes and Neil Morrissey; Some Kind of Life, by Kay Mellor; Jimmy McGovern's The Street; and Alive and Kicking, alongside Robbie Coltrane and Lenny Henry.

She also appeared in the All-Star Comedy Show, with Steve Coogan; Mirrorball, which reunited her with Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley; and had her own TV sketch show, Never Mind the Horrocks.

One of Jane's most famous roles was opposite Michael Caine in award-winning film Little Voice.

Other big screen outings include Chicken Run, Born Romantic, and Tim Burton's Corpse Bride.

Jane has also lent her voice to animated TV hits Hooves of Fire, Watership Down and Fifi and the Flowertots.

An associate member of Rada, Jane's first role out of drama school was in Jim Cartwright's Road, directed by Alan Clarke, in 1987.

It was Cartwright's fascination with her impressions of singers such as Julie Andrews and Shirley Bassey that led him to write the Rise and Fall of Little Voice, the West End hit which would become the hit movie, Little Voice.
